About Me
I attended Tamalpais High school where I participated in the AIM program, aka the Academy of Integrated Humanities and New Media. This highly competitive two-year program combines English, history and a documentary class. Working with other junior and senior students in the program you are tasked to create several films from short music videos and advertisements to four documentaries on a chosen theme. The English and history classes we took were expedited in order to dedicate the full half of each semester to make a documentary. This program got me really excited about the world of film, especially that of the documentary. From high school, I went on to get a Bachelor of Arts at the University College Cork, Ireland where I majored in film and screen media and minored in sociology.
My interests within the field of film and screen media lean heavily towards editing and cinematography. I am fascinated by the myriad of ways art can be constructed and spliced together to create a unique cinematic experience, a cohesive story that people can engage with critically. Editing is a vital part of filmmaking that can either make or break a film. True art leaves an impression on the viewer that compels them to consider themselves and the world around them more closely. A good, well-edited film does this. Another crucial element of a good film is the cinematography, the art of the camera and the image. Well executed cinematography has the power to create visually potent images and artistic expressions within the confines of the frame that stimulate the interest and curiosity of the viewer beyond what is actually captured. The amount of equipment involved in cinematography means that setting up each shot is truly an artistic endeavor. Cinematography constructs a cohesive map that compels the narrative along.
